Profile
Tim Nguyen is the Director of Investments at the University of Connecticut Foundation. He assists his Vice President & Chief Investment Officer in managing a multi-asset class portfolio (consisting of Long-only Equities/Bonds, Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Commodities, and Natural Resources). Prior to joining the Foundation, Mr. Nguyen was with the Texas Treasury, where he initiated and led the firm’s Alternative Investments Division (Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Real Assets). Additionally, he launched the “Single Risk Platform” which attempted to aggregate risk across a multi-asset class portfolio, vehicles and trading platforms. Before beginning his career in Public Fund Investing, Mr. Nguyen had the pleasure of working at the following financial services companies where he learned the art of credit analysis: MBIA, BNP Paribas, Fitch Rating Agency, Texas Commerce Bank, American Skan dia, and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
In addition to being an investment professional, Mr. Nguyen is also a social entrepreneur. In response to the financial debacle in 2008, he co-founded a nonprofit organization called the global association of alternative investors. The organization serves as a “think tank” where sharing experiences and ideas can improve the philosophy and investment processes of its members. The organization is composed exclusively of endowments, foundations, public funds, corporate pensions, sovereign wealth funds, central banks, and major single family offices. To date, the organization has more than 400 members with membership assets totaling more than $17 trillion.
On his downtime, he volunteers as a Research Coordinator for the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems at Harvard University’s teaching hospital (Spaulding Rehabilitation).
