Profile

Dorothy Foley, a native of Swampscott, Massachusetts, graduated summa cum laude from Darmtouth College with highest honors in English. She was named a Senior Fellow at Dartmouth and also holds a fellowship from Columbia University School of Law, where she received her doctorate in law.

After serving as a law clerk for a federal judge, Prof. Foley worked as a commercial litigator for two multinational law firms. She served as trial and appellate counsel for corporations in state and federal courts. Her clients included Genzyme, Bantam Doubleday Dell, MIT and The Discovery Channel, which she represented in a First Amendment case before the United States Supreme Court.

Prof. Foley served as Special Counsel at the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. during Janet Reno's tenure as Attorney General. She advised the Attorney General and other senior governmental officials on national security, government contracting, appropriations and law enforcement issues; drafted legislation; and tried cases. She was put in charge of part of an investigation into the Central Intelligence Agency. While at the Justice Department, she received two awards for outstanding performance and an Attorney General's Award for Outstanding Service.

Prof. Foley has also worked for Citigroup and has lectured on securities law and corporate law to executives and managers in the United States and the United Kingdom.
