Cantor has been chair of the Education Department since 2000 and was named Distinguished Teacher in 2002. Currently, she teaches early childhood courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as Philosophical and Historical Perspectives on the Child in Society, and Philosophy, Ethics and Education. Each fall she co-teaches Perspectives on Parent/Child Relationships with Meg Petersen. With her colleague Mary Cornish, she is involved in evaluating Quality Matters, a major early childhood initiative in the state, sponsored by Providing Financial Corporation, the N.H. Community Loan Fund and the Lakes Region Community Services Council. Cantor joined the Plymouth State faculty in 1990 and served as director of the Child Development and Family Center for six years. Before embarking on a teaching career, Cantor worked for several years as an editor of the Let's Go travel series. She also has worked in children's book publishing and book distribution. In addition, she has been a freelance editor, proofreader and indexer for a number of scholarly book publishers. She continues to review manuscripts and books for journals and publications. She received her B.A. in English and American Literature and Language, her M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Early Childhood). Her doctoral dissertation was on "Parents and Early Childhood Programs: A History." Degrees and Education
