Profile

Samuel D. Brickley 2nd joined PSU's Business Department faculty in August 2005 and is an Assistant Professor of Business Law. He teaches Business Law (BU 2480), Labor and Employment Law for Managers (BU 3410), and Land Use Law and Development (BU 3560) at the undergraduate level, and The Legal Environment of Business (BU 5220) in the MBA program.

From 1997 to 2005, Sam was in the private practice of law in Wilmington, Delaware, most recently as a partner and the chair of the Business, Commercial, and Corporate Practice Group at Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP ("CBL&H"). CBL&H is a law firm of 80+ attorneys with offices in Wilmington, Delaware, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, California. While at CBL&H, Sam concentrated his practice in business and corporate litigation, primarily in the Delaware Court of Chancery, the premier business court in the country. In slightly more than twelve years of active practice, Sam earned a reputation for his thoroughness and attention to detail in all stages of litigation. As an example, in a corporate control case, he uncovered a forged shareholders' agreement during litigation, resulting in a victory for the client and an award of attorneys' fees.

From 1994 to 1997, Sam was a Deputy Attorney General for the Delaware Department of Justice, where he litigated cases in the civil, criminal, and fraud divisions. While assigned to the criminal division, Sam successfully prosecuted numerous cases to jury verdict, ranging from speeding to first degree murder.

Sam received J.D. and MBA degrees from the University of San Diego in 1993. He received an A.B. degree in economics and government from Cornell University in 1989, where he was a Cornell National Scholar and earned All-Ivy and All-America honors in football.

Sam is no stranger to New Hampshire and PSU. He spent much of his childhood in Tilton, where his father was the athletic director and head football coach at the Tilton School in the 1970s. In addition, Sam's father is a M.Ed. graduate of PSU and owner of The Brickley Agency, a Nationwide Insurance agency in Laconia. Sam's wife is also a M.Ed. graduate of PSU. And while she was pursuing her degree in 1993 Sam began his legal career in Plymouth as an associate at Deachman & Cowie, P.A., before relocating with his wife to Delaware for job opportunities. Finally, by joining the Business Department faculty, Sam has become a colleague of his mother, who has taught various economics courses at PSU since 1993.

Sam resides in Holderness with his high school sweetheart and wife, Nari, and their three children.
