General information for incoming graduate students

  • Advising: Consult with your advisor before you register. Your advisor will help you develop an appropriate graduate program plan, which will then be approved by the Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies.
  • Enrollment: As a graduate student, you will enroll for fewer credit hours (3-9 per term) than you did as an undergraduate.
  • Add, Drop and Withdrawal Policies: You can add a course, with the permission of the instructor, after the course has already started. Courses can be dropped during the first through fourth week of the class. Please see our tuition and refund policy page for a reimbursement schedule.
    • Note about dropping a course: You will not be automatically dropped from a course, even if you never attend a class. Courses must be officially dropped, or a failing grade will appear on your transcript.
    • If you would like to drop a course after the fourth week, at that point it is termed a withdrawal. There is no reimbursement for a withdrawal, and a code of “W” (withdrawal) will appear on your official transcript as the grade. Requests to withdraw from a course after the term ends are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and assessed a $100 fee per request.
    • There is a $25 administrative fee for each class you withdraw from, add or drop.
    • Students receiving VA benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill are limited to an add/drop period that does not exceed thirty (30) days.
  • Tuition: Tuition rates for in-state students and out-of-state students can be found on the tuition page, and are subject to change. Please see the residency page to find out whether or not you qualify for in-state tuition.
  • Computer accounts: After registering for a course, you will be issued a Plymouth State University username, password and e-mail account, which are required to use any computer on campus. Correspondence from the graduate office will be sent to your Plymouth State e-mail account. For assistance in looking up your username and password, please see the myPlymouth Assistance page.
  • ID card: Your Plymouth State photo identification card is required for events, discounts, student services and borrowing library materials from Lamson Library and Learning Commons. Get your ID card at the Panther Print Shop in the Hartman Union Building.
  • Parking: All students must obtain a valid parking permit to park on campus. Visit the IPARQ Web site at thepermitstore.com and enter Plymouth as your parking destination to obtain a regular commuter parking permit.
Please view the University Police parking rules for the latest information regarding parking permits.
Our campus map (PDF 585 kb) will help you find parking locations and buildings on the Plymouth campus.
