Definition and Terms of Appointment
Graduate assistants must be admitted to a graduate program and actively pursuing their degree at the time they begin their assistantship appointment. Assistants perform duties that support the instructional program of the university, and the responsibilities associated with the appointment should also benefit the student's course of study or future goals. A typical assistantship carries a stipend of $4700, tuition credits for up to 18 graduate credits, and a work expectation of approximately 550 hours.
