Adventure LearningCoordinator: James Hannon, e-mail: medadventure@plymouth.edu The College of Graduate Studies' graduate program in Adventure Learning offers students the opportunity to earn a self-designed master's degree through a partnership with Project Adventure, Inc., a leader in adventure-based experiential programming. Project Adventure offers foundational and technical workshops in adventure programming, adventure-based counseling, portable adventure, technical skills intensive, and advanced skills and standards. Specialty topics such as adventure curriculum for physical education, adventure approach to health and wellness education, adventures in peacemaking, adventure in the classroom, and adventure program management provide students with additional opportunities to customize their educational experience. The 34-credit self-designed Master of Education degree in Elementary, Secondary or K-12 Education with a focus in Adventure Learning allows students to complete three core master's courses and a practicum through PSU. The remaining credit requirements can be fulfilled by attending Project Adventure workshops and completing independent study projects. Required CoursesMaster's Core Component - 9 credits Specialization Component - 22 credits Capstone Experience - 3 credits Total for M.Ed. Self Designed, Adventure Learning - 34 credits Graduate credit is available for all Project Adventure workshops, except one-day programs. Up to four graduate credits may be earned for PA workshops. Two credits are awarded for participating in a workshop and completing a reflection paper. Additional credits in two credit increments may be earned by completing PSU's Graduate Independent Study Option within three months of completing a workshop. An Independent Study may involve a project that results in systemic change, curriculum revision, grant applications, or creating a Web-based research project. The topic and extent of the project can be determined with the guidance of a PSU adviser and adjunct faculty. There is a per credit fee of $135 plus a $25 course registration fee.
