Information Technology Services operates more than 30 computer areas, commonly referred to as computer clusters, on the PSU campus. Within these clusters are more than 300 personal computers with Internet access. The majority of computers operate in the Windows-based PC environment, while some clusters use Macintosh computers. The computer science and technology department also has some UNIX-based workstations. Personal laptop computers can be connected to the Internet in Lamson Library and Learning Commons through marked locations. Wireless laptops or PDAs may connect via hotspots located in the HUB, Prospect Dining Hall, Lamson Library and Learning Commons, and some academic buildings.
In order for your computer to be accepted on the network it must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Pentium 4 PC running Windows XP SP2/Windows Vista SP1 OR a G4 Mac running MAC OS 10.4
- An approved antivirus program must be installed and enabled
- A firewall must be installed and enabled
- Automatic updates must be configured
Note: In order to access the Plymouth State University’s network from on campus, you must have Antivirus software installed. Visit the ITS Web site for a complete list of approved antivirus software programs. Purchasing a Computer
Computer purchase programs are currently available for faculty, staff, and students through both Dell Corporation and Apple Computers. PSU has both Dell and Apple certified repair technicians that can perform warranty work on campus. Purchase inquiries, sales, and customer satisfaction issues should be addressed directly with the providing company.
