ITS, with encouragement from the Computer Advisory Board, has implemented a quota system for monitoring printing in the student clusters. The quota system will help us monitor the use of printing resources supported by student technology fees and to identify excessive use. Through the use of this quota system we hope to educate students about the costs assocated with printing while controlling an increasingly expensive resources supported by student technology fees. An initial quota of 250 pages per semester is established for each student. This exceeds the 90th percentile of usage as monitored over the previous academic year. Students will be granted additional quota and can contact the ITS Help Desk at 2929 to request such. ITS management will monitor student print quotas and provide necessary "awareness education" when required. Faculty who print to the student clusters will also experience this quota system (but not when printing to departmental printers). Based on statistics obtained last year, most faculty won't be affected by this quota. If you require more quota, please contact the help desk. Please note that student cluster printers should not be used for making multiple copies of print-outs. Please use the photocopy facilities available to your department. I am happy to discuss any further questions or comments regarding the print quota system. Best wishes for a sucessful semester, Steven C.
