Archeology

Leading examples of the Institute’s archaeological efforts include:

  • Excavations at the former estate of the last colonial governor, John Wentworth
  • Excavations at the Russell-Colbath House on the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountain National Forest-currently undergraduate and graduate students are working on an exhibit for this project
  • An archaeological excavation at a nationally recognized Paleo-Indian site
  • Two U.S. Forest Service granted projects documenting logging and railroad activity in the White Mountain National Forest; one project studied the last logging railroad trestle in the forest; the second documented operations of the Little River Railroad.
