Placement in Classes

student with language professorInitial placement in foreign languages classes is through assessment of high school or other language experience.

French

  • Students who have no previous study or have completed one year of high school French may register for FR1010
  • Students who have completed up to two years of high school French may register for FR1110
  • Students who have recently completed up to their third year of language study in French should register for FR2010

Spanish

  • Students who have no previous study or have completed one year of Spanish may register for SP1010
  • Students who have completed up to two years of high school Spanish may register for SP1110
  • Students who have recently completed up to their third year of language study in Spanish should register for SP2010

German

  • Students who have no previous study or have completed two years of high school German may register for GR1010
  • Students who have recently completed up to their third year of language study in German should register for GR2010

Latin

  • Students who have no previous study or have completed two years of high school Latin may register for LA1030
  • Students who have recently completed up to their third year of language study in Latin should register for LA2030 

If there is still a question about correct placement, students may request a placement exam.  Student can receive up to six language credits through Advanced Placement.
