CQ Researcher, is a full-text database published by CQ Press, a division of Congressional Quarterly, Inc., a leading publisher of materials on American government, politics, and current national and world affairs. Each weekly issue explores in depth a single issue in the news. Topics cover a wide range of social, political, and environmental issues. In addition, there are four expanded reports each year on topics such as War on Terrorism and Distance Learning. Weekly reports (44 per year) are typically 12,000 words in text with extensive bibliographies, and each is divided into the following sections: Abstract, Overview, Background, Current Situation, Outlook, Special Focus, Chronology, Pro/Con, Bibliography, Next Step, Contacts, Footnotes. Each report is written by an experienced journalist and features comments from experts, lawmakers, and citizens on all sides of the issue. The CQ Researcher online database goes back to October 25, 1991. (Lamson Library has print copies beginning with May 10, 1991.) PDF files are available for full issues dating back to January 1996; for issues published since January 2001, PDF files are in color.
