PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), includes over 14 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950’s. These citations are from the MEDLINE database, the OLDMEDLINE database, and additional life science journals. MEDLINE is the NLM’s database of indexed journal citations and abstracts now covering nearly 4,800 journals published in the U.S. and more than 70 other countries. In addition to providing access to MEDLINE, PubMed provides access to citations that precede the date that a journal was selected for MEDLINE indexing. PubMed also provides access to “out-of-scope” citations (i.e. articles on plate tectonics or astrophysics) from certain MEDLINE journals, primarily general science and chemistry journals. In addition, PubMed includes links to many Web sites providing full text articles and other related Web resources.
