MA 4020 - The Cultural and Psychological Aspects of Mathematics Learning

Focuses on the cultural and psychological aspects of learning mathematics including implications of Piaget's research, constructivist learning theories, attitudes, teaching exceptional children, brain research and brain hemispheric specialization, mathematics education in foreign countries, mathematics anxiety, tracking, contrasting developmentalists verses behaviorist theories of learning, mathematics assessment, evaluation and selection of curriculum materials. TIMSS results and their implications and how culture influences education. Students spend a minimum of 12 hours in schools observing and working with students and teachers.
