A COURSE DESIGNED JUST FOR YOU! (oh yeah, and it’s required)
At Orientation, you will be given the chance to register for a full schedule of courses.
One of these courses, The First Year Seminar: Critical Thinking and the Nature of Inquiry will introduce you to
the concepts of the general education program, our academic community and to the skills educated people use to
generate and address important questions. Because each section of this course is built around a specific question or
topic, we want you to have the opportunity to choose a topic that interests you. AND ABOUT ALL THOSE OTHER CLASSES YOU
NEED TO TAKE…
CLASSES? WHAT CLASSES?
YOU MEAN I ACTUALLY HAVE TO TAKE CLASSES?
In addition to the First Year Seminar you will also be taking several other courses. Some are related to
your major and were recommended specifically for you by faculty in your department. Others are within the General
Education program and are called Directions, which represent different approaches to learning. Prior to gaining access
to the registration system at Orientation, the Office of the Registrar will schedule you into these Directions courses
as well as the courses within your major, based on the major you were accepted into by the Admission Office. Prior to
attending Orientation, if you wish to change your major, please contact the Admission
Office or 800-842-6900 (option 1).
