October 13th, 1998 by Adam

PLYMOUTH, N.H.. – The goalkeeper on the Plymouth State College men’s soccer team has earned mention on this week’s Little East Conference
Weekly Honor Roll after helping the Panthers remain unbeaten.

Senior Shawn Higgins (Foxboro, MA) was perfect in 180 minutes of soccer last week, allowing no goals and making 11 saves. He held Salem State
(ranked #4 in New England) scoreless for 120 minutes in a 0-0 overtime tie last Wednesday, making seven saves, then blanked conference foe Rhode Island
College for 60 minutes, making four saves, in Saturday’s 5-1 victory. Higgins, in his first season in the Panther net after transferring from Central Connecticut, leads
the LEC with a sparkling 0.45 goals against average and five shutouts.

The Panthers continue to have a terrific season under seventh-year head coach Shawn Griffin. At 9-0-2 overall and 3-0-0 in the Little East, PSC has moved
up to #2 in New England and #13 in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III polls. Plymouth State has won 11 straight LEC
matches dating back to 1996.

PSC has a relatively lighter load this week, with just one game – Saturday (Oct. 17) at LEC opponent UMass Dartmouth (11:00 a.m.). After another LEC
encounter Tuesday (Oct. 20) at Southern Maine (3:30 p.m.), PSC returns home Saturday (Oct. 24) to host UMass Boston (11:00 a.m.).

Panther Notes: Freshman Antoine Moiboueyi (Gabon, Africa/Acton-Boxboro, MA) continued his hot offensive streak Saturday at RIC, scoring his first
career hat trick to pace the Panthers. He has come off the bench to score goals in four of PSC’s last five games, counting seven goals in that span. He has moved
up to a tie for seventh in the LEC in scoring with 15 points (seven goals, one assist)…..Senior Jesse Elderkin (Concord, NH) and junior Kevin Martin (Foxboro,
MA) are also among the LEC scoring leaders. Elderkin is tied for fourth with 19 points (eight goals, three assists), and Martin is tied for 17th with nine points (four
goals, one assist).
