PLYMOUTH, N.H.-A longtime PSU employee described as patient, skillful, diplomatic and conscientious has been named the 2008 Operating Staff Employee of the Year.
Kathryn Melanson, Social Science department administrative assistant, was honored May 13 in ceremony at Heritage Commons. Melanson was chosen from a field of 16 nominees.
PSU President Sara Jayne Steen presented Melanson with the award, congratulating her on the honor.
“In listening to the compliments about Kathy, it’s obvious she is enormously respected,” said Steen. “Operating staff are core to this institution. They are the first responders, and there is no question about their importance to the entire campus.”
The criteria for nomination of the award include knowledge of job, resourcefulness, leadership and support of students, faculty and staff. Among the comments submitted on Melanson’s behalf were:
“She would help you, no matter what…”
“Kathy is almost always able to resolve problems without any hard feelings…”
“She is always looking out for the other guy…”
Melanson said she was surprised and flattered by the award.
