PSU Receives Gift From Houdegbe North American University

March 7th, 2013 by Tim

Plymouth State University recently received a photobook courtesy of Houdegbe North American University Benin (HNAUB).

PSU President Sara Jayne Steen (center) receives a photobook from Professor Peng Kuan Chong. The photos celebrate the opening of the new library at Houdegbe North American University Benin (West Africa). Chong, along with Dean of Arts and Sciences Cynthia Vascak (far left), Dean of Library Science David Beronä (second from left) and former VP Dick Hage (far right) were guests of the university in January for the library dedication and for the school’s convocation.

The photos in the book were taken recently during the dedication of a library named in honor of the State of New Hampshire and Plymouth State University and attended by a delegation from PSU. Octave Cossi Houdegbe, HNAUB president and chancellor, attended Plymouth State and the two institutions maintain close ties.

Former PSU Vice President of Student Affairs Dick Hage, Dean of Arts and Sciences Cynthia Vascak, Dean of Library Science David Beronä and Professor Peng Kuan Chong attended the HNAUB ceremonies, which also included the University’s convocation, and presented the commemorative book to PSU President Sara Jayne Steen and PSU Provost Julie Bernier.

According to Hage, the photo book is a “gesture of appreciation for all [PSU] has done” for the development of HNAUB, including an exchange program for students and faculty.

HNAUB bestowed an honorary degree upon Hage in 2008 and previously named a residence hall to honor Professor Chong. Both were teachers and mentors to HNAUB President Houdegbe during his time at PSU.
