PLYMOUTH, N.H.  – The Plymouth State University women’s tennis team swept all six singles matches Thursday afternoon and went on to post an 8-1 victory over Endicott College in a non-conference match at the P.E. Center Courts.

The Panthers took a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches, then put the victory away with a sweep in singles.  PSU won its second in a row to improve to 4-3 overall, while Endicott fell to 3-3.

PSU’s top two players, junior Whitney O’Leary (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and sophomore Erica Huckins (Plymouth, N.H.), each won two matches, including a tiebreaker decision together at #1 doubles.  O’Leary also won a 10-point tiebreaker to capture the verdict at #1 singles and Huckins was a straight-set winner at #2 singles.

Freshman Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) and junior Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) also won two matches apiece for PSU.  They teamed up to capture an easy victory at #2 doubles, and followed with straight set wins at #3 and #4 singles, respectively.  Juniors Sarah Cole (North Waterboro, Maine) and Liz Duell (Hope Valley, R.I.) also picked up singles wins for PSU at #5 and #6, respectively.

Endicott’s only win came at #3 doubles, where senior Eulalia Zukas (South Portland, Maine) and junior Jessica Kalafatis (Littleton, Mass.) captured the victory in a tiebreaker.

PSU plays two more home matches this week – defending Little East Conference champion Rhode Island College on Friday (3:30 p.m.) and Castleton State on Sunday (1:00 p.m.).  Endicott plays another road match Saturday at Wentworth (12:00 p.m.).
