PSU’s Jeff Mack Named Union Leader Male Athlete of the Year

PLYMOUTH, N.H.-
It was another big day for the star running back on the Plymouth State University football team on Sunday, but it had nothing to do with being on the football field.

Senior Jeff Mack (Milford, N.H.) was honored at the New Hampshire Union Leader’s 25th Annual Parade of Champions Banquet, as he was presented the Robert A. “Red” Rolfe Male Athlete of the Year Award.

Mack (In photo,from left, Jeff Mack, PSU Athletic Director John Clark and PSU football coach Paul Castonia), who was also honored for being named the N.H. Union Leader’s Athlete of the Month for October 2008, is the first person from Plymouth State to ever receive the Robert A. “Red” Rolfe Award.

Mack completed an outstanding season for Plymouth State, rushing for a school-record 1,779 yards and 20 touchdowns. He ran for more than 200 yards four times, and ranked in the top 10 in the nation in rushing. He carried the load for the Panthers, who ran the ball nearly 90 percent of the time.

Mack led Plymouth State to the NEFC Championship and a berth in the NCAA play-offs for the first time since 1995. The Panthers finished 9-1 in the regular season and 10-2 overall.

Plymouth State was also represented in the presentation of the John R. Clark Officials Awards at the Parade of Champions Banquet. Former PSU professor and coach Dot Diehl, pictured at right, was one of the five to receive the prestigious honor, along with PSU alum Chet Swiesz of Manchester.
