Publicity

Positive publicity is always good for the University. Are you volunteering in your community, speaking as an expert on local or regional radio, hosting an event that is open to the public?

The Office of Public Relations sends news releases to the appropriate media to publicize University achievements, events and activities, using information (who-what-when-where as well as relevant quotations) provided to us by campus administrators, departments and organizations. We also post news releases on the PSU Web site and the myPlymouth portal.

For general news: Please submit the basic information (or a draft for us to edit into AP news format) via e-mail to opr@plymouth.edu, by completing the appropriate sections of the Submit a Work Request form or call the office at 535-2276 to let us know what is happening. PR does not have a staff photographer. If you will need a photographer for your event, we can recommend someone from an approved list.

For calendar listings: Submit complete information (date, time, location, cost, contact person's name and phone number) to Public Relations via opr@plymouth.edu five weeks before the first of the month in which the performance, event or activity is scheduled, to meet calendar editors’ deadlines. A monthly event tip sheet is sent to the media outlets and posted on the Web two weeks before the beginning of the month, and our Plymouth Week newsletter has a weekly calendar. Don't miss these opportunities.

For single-date events (such as lectures/speakers, planetarium shows, wellness fairs, films, etc.): Send the information to Public Relations four weeks in advance of the event for distribution to the media.

For arts performances, exhibitions and special events: Ideal publicity may include more than one news release or feature, depending on the scope of the program. Schedule a planning session six to eight weeks in advance of the event, to develop a plan and discuss text and images. Just fill out the Submit a Work Request form.

Depending on the event, we might include:

  • an overview of programs for the semester, three to four weeks before the semester begins
  • a feature release providing information on the specific event three weeks prior
  • a tickler release the week before the event, or during a multi-week event, or expanded information on participating artists/performers.
  • hometown releases about participating students

A word about deadlines:

Remember, Public Relations needs at least four weeks lead time to assure publicity of your event; and five weeks if it is to be included in the monthly tip sheet. Our deadlines are driven by those in the media. Information we receive outside the timelines described above can only be handled on a time-available basis and cannot pre-empt information that was received earlier, regardless of its urgency.

Distribution

Public Relations maintains electronic contact lists for various purposes. If you would like to have your release sent to non-New Hampshire media outlets, such as journals or newsletters relating to your field or hometown newspaper, please let us know and provide us with the contact information.

Plymouth Week

The Plymouth Week newsletter is published each Monday by the Office of Public Relations. It is distributed to faculty and staff on campus, as well as to the President’s Council, faculty emeriti, the Board of Trustees and selected friends of the University. To submit your news to Plymouth Week, send it to opr@plymouth.edu . The submission deadline is Friday noon, 10 days prior to publication.

Plymouth Magazine

Plymouth Magazine is published three times a year by the Office of Public Relations. It is distributed to alumni, current parents, trustees, legislators, the President's Council, faculty emeriti, the Board of Trustees, organizations and friends of the University, as well as residents of the town of Plymouth. It is also distributed to various locations around town, and to faculty, staff and current seniors on campus. Deadlines vary with the publication schedule, but you should contact the editor approximately four months in advance of the publication date to be included in the next issue.
