ICE – In Case of Emergency

June 15th, 2011 by Jennifer Frank

The University Police Department encourages all Students, Staff and Faculty to participate in the ICE program by programming their mobile telephone address book with an emergency contact under the name “ICE.”  This would allow emergency responders such as Police, Firefighters and Paramedics an efficient method for contacting the next of kin to obtain vital medical information, lists of allergies or current medications being taken and to notify them of any emergency information.

Although we hope that no one will ever find themselves in a situation where they would be unable to provide us with that information themselves, we do occasionally have incidents where an individual is found unconscious, has fainted or has been in a motor-vehicle accident and the information that could be provided by an emergency contact is vital to providing them with the best services possible.  Multiple emergency contacts can be included in the address book under the titles “ICE1″, “ICE2″, etc.  Suggested ICE contacts might include: Parents, Spouses and or Partners.
