In addition to formal awards, members of the University Police Department may be recognized in a less formal manner as a result of commendatory or complimentary telephone calls or correspondence received by the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police or the member’s supervisor.
Unsolicited commendations and compliments from citizens, students, faculty and staff serve as a valuable tool for evaluating a member’s job performance and are given considerable importance when a member is being considered for promotion or a special duty assignment. Records of such communications or the actual correspondence become a part of the member’s departmental personnel file.
