A Message of Thanks to the Campus Community

To the Campus Community:

Thank you for your care in responding to last night’s report of a possible armed person on campus.  The students who filed police reports about the individual, and several separate reports were filed, were thoughtful and specific in their descriptions, leading to an identification within hours.  Their concern for the wider community in contacting the police is admirable.

Students across campus also have written to express thanks to faculty and staff members for their responsible handling of the situation and emphasis on student safety.  We are grateful that the incident ended without violence and that our wider community and area law enforcement agencies reacted quickly and effectively as a team.

This also reminds us of the importance of PSU’s emergency text message system, PSU Alert.  Some messages were truncated, and we will work to find solutions, but those who felt best informed were those who had access to text alerts. If you have not registered or renewed, please consider doing so (http://www.plymouth.edu/alerts/).  Students, it might reassure your parents if you also entered an e-mail address for them, and you have the option of doing so.

I know that this was difficult for many students, staff and faculty members, and families.  We appreciate the comments that we have received through e-mail, Facebook, and personal discussions as we engage in ongoing reviews.  As always, your thoughts and ideas are welcome as we work together to keep the campus a safe learning and living environment.
