Making “Marking the Moment,” in Two Acts

October 17th, 2013 by Lynn

PLYMOUTH — Pease Public Library is pleased to present PSU professor emeritus, Dr. Manuel Marquez-Sterling in two afternoon programs (Two Acts!) in the multimedia community room on Thursday, Oct. 31 and Thursday, Nov. 6 from 4-6p.m.

In these two programs, Dr. Sterling, who is the co-author of the Moss Hart Award winning musical “Marking the Moment,” depicting the 250 years of Plymouth History, will take us from the first inspiration for the musical- through the extensive historical research- the writing and editing -and at last to the catchy tunes and bright dialogue performed under the bright lights. To illustrate, he will both read from the original form and show scenes from the video of the actual musical as it was presented. You will leave with an appreciation of the extensive amount of historical research, the creative process of writing and rewriting the dialogue and music, and the hours of collaborating to make it all fit together. This is all before the labor of love it takes to organize all of this on the stage with 120 actors and singers. The video is available at the library so that you can check it out and see the whole musical either before or after the program.
