Outdoor siren part of University’s emergency alert plan
PLYMOUTH — Plymouth State University will test its PSU Alert Emergency Outdoor Siren at noon, Tuesday, March 25.
The test will last about five minutes. The purpose of the PSU Alert Emergency Outdoor Siren is to notify campus and community residents, staff and visitors to an imminent threat or danger. Emergency management officials are urging residents, staff and patrons of local businesses to shelter in place when the siren is sounded.
The PSU Alert Emergency Outdoor Siren is located on a pole adjacent to the Hartman Union Building on High Street and should be audible outdoors for approximately a one-mile radius.
PSU’s emergency alert communication systems will also be tested.

The PSU Alert Emergency Outdoor Siren is part of a comprehensive emergency alert system PSU has established to respond to emergencies.
The siren is tested twice a year (typically at noon on the third Wednesday in September and February), and otherwise will sound only when there is threat of imminent danger to those in the campus community.
