PSU’s Small Business Institute® garners Second Place award in national competition

    PLYMOUTH — A team from Plymouth State University’s MBA program earned a second place award for a Specialized Report in the 2014 National Small Business Institute® Project of the Year Competition.

    The award-winning entry was produced by three PSU students for Comptus, a Thornton, N.H. firm that designs and manufactures environmental sensors. Comptus is owned by PSU alumnus Andrew White, who earned an MBA from PSU in 2009 and won a first place national award in the SBI competition that year.

    “The SBI competition is the highlight of the MBA program; it’s real-life application of what you’re learning in the MBA program,” White said.

    Michael Tentnowski, SBI Director and Business professor at PSU, said Plymouth State’s SBI program is one of the nation’s finest and the accolades are proof of that.

    “Following in the footsteps of Master SBI Director Craig Zamzow, this is a wonderful achievement for the graduate students, PSU, and New Hampshire companies,” Tentnowski said. “I was honored to receive the award on behalf of the students and to continue in the tradition of PSU’s national SBI award-winning ways.”

    White says MBA students Kin Beardwood Smith, Ashley Andersen and Samuel Kamau produced a comprehensive marketing report for Comptus and the results have worked well.

    “They highlighted key areas we needed to focus on as a business, to position ourselves for growth; we redeveloped our website and we will do additional branding and market analysis –I review the report on a regular basis,” said White.

    Since 1976, Plymouth State students have won dozens of statewide, regional, and national awards in SBI competitions. Recent Small Business Institute®awards include:
