About Professor Ekstrom
Dr. Angel Ekstrom holds a doctoral degree in Education and has worked in the outdoor field in a variety of roles. Currently Angel is an Adventure Education faculty member, and manages the Outdoor Center providing programs available to all PSU students. Outdoor Center programs include the Student Outdoor Adventure Recreation (SOAR) program, White Mountain Orientation (WMO) trips, the Equipment Use program (outdoor equipment), and an Outdoor Leader certification/training series. Angel also manages PSU’s indoor climbing wall, and supervises the Outdoor Center staff, facilitators, and volunteer trip leaders
As an outdoor educator Angel has been a field instructor for NOLS and Outward Bound, a programmer and field instructor at University outdoor programs, a therapeutic wilderness counselor working with adjudicated males, as well as worked with developmentally disabled populations ages 5 – 95. Academically, Angel has taught a wide range of Adventure Education courses within PSU’s Health and Human Performance (HHP) department as well as at Colorado Mountain College, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Angel has been involved in her community as a WEMT and member of search and rescue teams and volunteer fire department. She has worked as a professional ski patroller and was the manager and guide for Snowest Snowmobile Tours in Colorado.
Angel has presented at several National Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) conferences. She has taken on several leadership roles within the Association by serving on the AORE Board of Directors, the Executive Council, and chairing committees. Presently, Angel is serving as a member or chair of various scholarship committees. She has earned several awards and recognitions including an Instructor Scholarship from the National Outdoor Leadership School.
Angel lives in Rumney, NH and enjoys climbing, skiing, surfing, paddling, and biking.
