Praxis I

Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Assessments (PPST) are used to measure proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, and math. The Praxis I tests should be taken during your first year at PSU and must be passed by meeting the current scores required by the State of New Hampshire. Passing Praxis I scores are required for acceptance into Teacher Certification Candidacy and graduation from Plymouth State University in a teacher education program.

Nonstandard testing accommodations for test takers with disabilities are available for those who meet Educational Testing Service (ETS) requirements. Please visit www.ets.org/praxis for details.

Options: The Praxis I PPST tests are available in two different formats, paper-based and computer-based. If you plan to teach outside of NH, please check with ETS, prior to registering, for that state’s Praxis requirements.

  • Paper-Based PPST: The paper and pencil Praxis tests are administered and can be taken at Plymouth State University, as well as various other testing centers.
  • Computer-Based PPST (CBT): The CBT may be taken instead of the on-campus paper and pencil test. New Hampshire testing sites are in Concord, Lebanon, Portsmouth, and Nashua, although test centers are located in most other states. CBT test centers are open daily, allowing you greater flexibility in scheduling appointment times.

Praxis I can be taken once a calendar month but not more than six times a calendar year. Please note that the registration deadline is about 30 days prior to the test date. Check www.ets.org/praxis for the exact deadline dates.

Praxis Registration, Dates, Locations and Fees: For information on the Praxis I, please pick-up a Praxis Bulletin at the OTC (Speare 215) or contact Education Testing Services (ETS) directly: www.ets.org/praxis, 1-800-772-9476, or ETS-The Praxis Series, PO Box 6051, Princeton, NJ 08541-6051.

I came to Plymouth State after having a great time here with my sister. When I started looking for colleges again, PSU was the one. The professors are really nice, know your name within a few days, and genuinely care about your education. I’ve really enjoyed my stay here and will miss it when I graduate.
