Professional Information

Dr. Sylvia Bryant has worked in higher education and institutional advancement for nearly 15 years.  She comes to Plymouth State University from Alfred University, Alfred, NY, where she was associate vice president for individual giving with oversight for major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, donor relations and stewardship, and advancement services.  While at Alfred, she served as executive director for a $150 million comprehensive campaign that resulted in the two largest gifts in institutional history. 

 
A native of Missouri, Dr. Bryant attended the University of Missouri-Rolla and the University of Kansas for Bachelor's and Master's degrees, respectively, in English.  She holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Washington, with emphasis on 19th-century American literature and feminist theory.  She has two sons, Parker, aged 12 and Duncan, aged 9, and is active in community service.
