Frequently Asked Questions
- What does my annual gift support?
- Your gift to the PSU Tower Fund provides direct support for academic programs, student scholarships, cultural programs, computer and library upgrades, alumni services such as Plymouth Magazine, and faculty and staff development.
- Can I make my gift online?
- Yes! You can make your gift online at any time.
- Does your employer match gifts?
- You can double or even triple your gift to Plymouth State University with matching gifts. Over 10,000 employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees, employee's family members, retired employees and board members. To find out if your employer has a matching gift program, search our matching gift look up service or contact your Human Resources Office.
- Do company matching gifts count toward donor recognition?
- Yes. At PSU matching gifts count toward recognition. For example, a donor who gives $500 and is matched by his or her employer's gift at a one-to-one ration within the same fiscal year is recognized at the Platinum Club level ($1000) for that fiscal year.
- Plymouth State University is a state-assisted institution, so why are gifts from alumni and friends needed?
- Plymouth State University receives less than 14 percent of its total budget from state appropriations, with student tuition making up a large part of the University's operating budget, less than any other state (the national average is around 32 percent). Gifts to the PSU Tower Fund from alumni and friends help keep tuition affordable while providing programs and services that enrich the academic experience for all PSU students.
- Why are unrestricted gifts so important?
- Unrestricted gifts allow the President the flexibility to meet the University's most pressing concerns by allocating funds, where the need is greatest. In the past, unrestricted gifts have supported cultural programs at the Silver Center for the Arts and the Karl Drerup Art Gallery, student scholarships through the PSU Alumni Association, alumni services such as Plymouth Magazine, and many other programs and services that affect the entire Plymouth community
- May I restrict my gift to a certain department or program?
- Absolutely! You may restrict your gift to any department or program you wish to support.

- Why do you call me every year?
- Like any other college or university, Plymouth depends upon the support of alumni and friends to enhance academic and cultural programs. The PSU student calling program gives students an opportunity to personally thank donors for their financial support and to ask them to continue that support. The students also provide information about PSU events and update your records with more current information. Our students enjoy talking with you and we hope you enjoy talking with them.
- Is my gift tax deductible?
- Yes! Your gifts to PSU are tax deductible under the applicable sections of the Internal Revenue Code.

- How do I update my address, business, or other information?
- You can update your information online by visiting the Alumni Relations web site or you can call the Alumni Relations Office directly at (800) 772-2620.
