General Scholarships

American Association of University Women Non-Traditional Student Scholarship Fund*
This endowment funds scholarships for outstanding non-traditional PSU undergraduate women. The scholarship award shall be made on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Notification of this scholarship will be mailed to PSU students in early December. Applications are available in the University Development office and need to be completed during the month of March. Qualified candidates are contacted for interviews and the PSUAA Scholarship Committee determines the recipient.

William S. Belvin Scholarship Endowment
This endowment fund provides an annual scholarship for tuition and fees to one undergraduate student enrolled in a full time degree granting program, who has demonstrated the capacity to succeed at Plymouth State University, has maintained a GPA of 3.2 over at least three semesters, and has a need for financial assistance that is incremental to their own contributions toward the cost of their University education. Preference may be given to students who are the first in their family to seek a baccalaureate degree. Interested students can apply through the Development Office in Holmes House.

Class of 1937 Scholarship Fund*
This endowment funds a scholarship based on merit with consideration given to financial need, and is granted to worthy Plymouth State University students. Recipients are chosen by a committee. No application process is required.

Robert J. Doherty Jr. 86 Scholarship Fund*
This endowment honors Robert J. Doherty, Jr. 86 and, in his memory, funds scholarships for outstanding PSU students. The recipient shall have successfully completed his/her freshman year, and must be a resident of Rochester, N.H. If there is no qualified student from Rochester, the limitation will be expanded to surrounding communities in the Seacoast Region. Candidates are determined on the basis of academic merit, demonstrated leadership ability and financial need. This scholarship will be renewed annually, as long as the recipient maintains an acceptable cumulative grade point average, until the recipient has completed his/her undergraduate degree. Notification of this scholarship will be mailed to PSU students in early December. Applications are available in the University Development office and need to be completed during the month of March. Qualified candidates are contacted for interviews and the PSUAA Scholarship Committee determines the recipient.

J. Philip and Eva M. Duguay Scholarship
The purpose of the J. Philip and Eva M. Duguay Scholarship is to provide a need-based scholarship to a Plymouth State undergraduate, with a preference, should two candidates be equally qualified, for first-generation students. This scholarship recipient is determined newly each year by a scholarship committee appointed by the president and will be awarded at the Fall Undergraduate Awards ceremony.

Brennan Hart Memorial Fund*
This endowment honors Brennan Hart and, in his memory, funds scholarships. Awards are made to conscientious undergraduate student(s) who are involved in outdoor recreational activities and leadership apart from team athletics, and who have financial need. Recipients are chosen by a committee comprised of the Director of the Hartman Union and Student Activities, the advisor to the Outing Club and the United Campus Minister. Applications are available in the month of February in the Hartman Union Administrative Office and at the HUB Information Booth. An application must be submitted for consideration for this scholarship. The application deadline is April 4, 2008. Students must be returning to PSU in the following academic year and must also have financial aid forms, indicating some level of need, filed with the Financial Aid office to be eligible.

Harold E. Hyde Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide a scholarship to a student who demonstrates a strong record of academic achievement. Criteria includes an exemplary record of leadership and service, and a commitment to activities whose purpose is to further the cause of international understanding. The endowment also has an interest in students majoring in education administration, though this is not a requirement for eligibility. Interested students can apply through the Development Office in Holmes House.

Imagine A Way Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of the Imagine A Way Scholarship Endowment is to support scholarships for students who have financial need or who may be among the first generation in their family to attend college. Interested students can apply through the Development Office in Holmes House.

Cindy Kilzen Memorial Scholarship Fund
Cindy Kilzen, sister of PSU alumna Kathryn Kilzen Barnett, was the first student with a handicap to graduate from Fair Haven High School. Because Cindy suffered from spina bifida and other medical conditions, she was confined to a wheel chair for most of her life. Despite her illness, Cindy displayed remarkable courage. She strove to do her best and to make those around her comfortable with her circumstances. Cindy died at the age of 20. The purpose of this endowed fund is to present a scholarship to a full-time student (or students) entering the senior year who has displayed great courage in overcoming a disability or handicap in earning a degree. The Dean of Student Affairs, or the appropriate designated official, shall appoint a committee each year to select a recipient.

Morgridge Family Internship Scholarship Fund
Internship programs at Plymouth State University are an opportunity for students to work intensively, mentored by an internship advisor to craft an off-campus learning experience that not only brings their degree program into focus but gives them a road map for their remaining semester(s) at the university and their transition to the world of work after graduation. Internships prepare the student for the reality of the career environment in their chosen field and often lead to paid employment. There are basic costs to an internship that are prohibitive for students of modest financial means. The purpose of the Morgridge Family Internship Scholarship Fund is to grant stipends or honorariums to qualified Plymouth State University students to ease the financial burden to the students by supporting the basic costs of an internship.

Morgridge Family Opportunity Scholarship
The Morgridge Family Opportunity Scholarship Endowment is established through a gift from John and Carrie Morgridge. The purpose of the Morgridge Family Opportunity Scholarship Endowment is to provide renewable scholarships for academically promising, Pell-eligible students that will help to reduce the amount borrowed for educational purposes. Preference will be given to students from Belknap, Coos, Grafton, Sullivan and Carroll counties, which are located in the northern and lakes regions of New Hampshire, and those who are first generation in their families to attend University. Students who receive Morgridge Family Opportunity scholarships will be assigned to the Morgridge Learning Community. The MLC will be advised by a member of the faculty. Awards will be made by the Financial Aid Office. MFOS application.

New Hampshire Transfer Student Fund
This endowment provides funds for New Hampshire residents transferring to Plymouth State University. Criteria includes current full-time student status, 3.0 GPA and application for full-time status at PSU. Financial aid scholarship committee will determine the award selection. No application process is required.

Operating Staff Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by the Operating Staff of the university to a student who is a returning PSU student, who is a New Hampshire resident, and who is in good academic standing. Recipient nominations are solicited from PSU faculty and staff. Recipients are selected by the Operating Staff Fundraising/Scholarship Committee. One scholarship is presented at the spring undergraduate convocation. Application deadline March 14. Forms: Application / Nominating Form

Plymouth State University Alumni Association
This endowment funds scholarships. Criteria are determined by the PSUAA scholarship committee. Notification of this scholarship will be mailed to PSU students in early December. Applications are available in the Alumni office and need to be completed during the month of March. Qualified candidates are contacted for interviews and the PSUAA scholarship committee determines the recipient.

Plymouth State University P.A.T Scholarship
These scholarships are provided by the Professional/Administrative/Technical staff of the university to students entering their junior or senior year, who are in good academic standing, and who are actively involved in both university and community activities. Recipient nominations are solicited from each principal administrator, each PAT staff member, and each academic department chair. Recipients are selected by the PAT scholarship committee. Two scholarships are presented.

Patricia Stips Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of the Patricia Stips Scholarship Endowment is to support scholarships for students of Plymouth State University who have completed at least one semester. Recipients should be full time students, attending for a full year of study for which this award is given. Recipients shall be selected by financial aid.

Student Affairs Endowed Scholarship Fund *
This endowment supports scholarships for returning, full-time students, (have completed a minimum of three semesters at PSU), who are in good academic standing, show good citizenship, take leadership roles in student life, volunteer on campus or in the community, display characteristics of personal growth, and have need. Volunteers in the Student Affairs division will review applications submitted by students who write a statement about why he or she is a good candidate for this scholarship and how the above criteria applies to him or her. The Application Form and Nomination Form must be completed and submitted by March 21, 2008.

John K. Walsh Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support to a current or incoming student who has shown leadership in his/her school community with regard to the rights and activities of lesbian or gay individuals. The scholarship award will be determined by a committee of the university based on the established criteria and can be renewable. Application form.

Ann L. Wharton Scholarship Fund
The Ann L. Wharton Scholarship should be awarded, preferably at Spring Convocation, to a student who is completing his or her junior year and will be returning to PSU for his/her senior year of study. The scholarship should be used to offset tuition costs incurred during the senior year. A full year of study remaining is preferred in order to be considered for this award. The award should support a student who has demonstrated superior academic performance after overcoming a substantive obstacle or personal challenge. Such obstacles or challenges include, but are not limited to initial academic disappointment or failure; a physical challenge; or financial or economic obstacles. In each case, recipients should have demonstrated in their lives and University careers those qualities exemplified by Ann L. Wharton: courage, hard work, persistence, and generosity to others. Interested students can apply through the Development Office in Holmes House.

Barbara M. Willey Endowment for International Study Scholarship
Barbara M. Willey, world traveler and elementary educator, made provisions for Plymouth State University in her will. Her bequest was used to establish the Barbara M. Willey Endowment to provide support for Plymouth State undergraduate students pursuing study abroad in relation to their degree. Interested students may apply through the office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Charles L. and Frances F. Currier Memorial
This endowment honors Charles L. and Frances F. Currier and, in their memories, supports scholarships. The scholarships are granted to qualified graduates of Plymouth Regional High School who are admitted and intend to enroll or who are currently enrolled in a full-time capacity at Plymouth State University. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their academic record, citizenship and participation in extra-curricular activities. Recipients are chosen by a committee. No application process is required.

* Students who would like to be considered for scholarships that identify financial need as a criteria will need to complete the Federal Financial Aid Application before the March 1 deadline. Academic and Non-Academic Departments offering scholarships collaborate with the Financial Aid Office, therefore, it is imperative that students comply with PSU policy.
