Social Science Scholarships

John L. Daly Scholarship
As a graduate of Plymouth State College, Class of 1967, John recognized that Plymouth State College provided him with many opportunities to further his education and allowed him to pursue a career teaching geography.  The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide a scholarship to a deserving geography major who is planning to seek certification in teacher education. The award recipient will be chosen by the Social Science Department, Geography Scholarship Committee on the basis of the following criteria: the student must be at least a sophomore with a 3.0 overall grade point average.

Switzer History Prize Endowed Fund
The fund will support two cash awards. The first, the Switzer History Prize, shall be awarded to an outstanding senior history major who has shown continued academic improvement and achievement during four years at Plymouth State University; demonstrated talent for research and writing; participated in co-curricular activities; and whose special qualities have earned the respect from both professors and peers. The second, the Switzer History Excellence Award shall be awarded to an outstanding senior who, during at least two years as a history major at Plymouth State University has shown consistent academic achievement, demonstrated the qualities and traits of a professional historian, and earned the respect of the history faculty.

James J. Hogan Memorial Fund
This endowment honors the memory of Professor James J. Hogan and, in his memory, funds scholarships for worthy undergraduate students pursuing study in international affairs. Recipients are selected based on their academic achievement in areas related to international affairs, their intention to pursue further study in the discipline, the degree and quality of their community and civic service, and their contributions to PSU activities. The donor prefers one award. Recipients are chosen by a committee. No application process is required.

Catherine and Kirk Middlekauf Fund
The purpose of this endowment fund is to support awards or stipends for social science students majoring in geography, history, anthropology, sociology, or political science.  Funds may be used by students for travel related to particular social science or interdisciplinary courses.  Funds may be applied to the course credit fee or to travel expenses (i.e., accommodations, airfare, food, etc.) for study away from PSU campuses.  Please contact Associate Professor John Krueckeberg, MSC 39  for application information.

John F. Ozog Memorial Fund
This endowment funds scholarships for worthy undergraduate students majoring in geography. The recipient shall have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours in geography. Selection is based on academic achievement as well as contributions to geography at Plymouth State University, i.e., the degree and quality of participation in geography-related activities. Recipients are chosen by a committee. No application process is required.

William Taylor Memorial Fund
This endowment provides scholarships for outstanding students majoring in one of the Social Science disciplines. Criteria is determined by the faculty members of the Social Science Department. Recipients are chosen by a committee. No application process is required.

* Students who would like to be considered for scholarships that identify financial need as a criteria will need to complete the Federal Financial Aid Application before the March 1 deadline. Academic and Non-Academic Departments offering scholarships collaborate with the Financial Aid Office, therefore, it is imperative that students comply with PSU policy.
