OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIPS

Private foundations, civic organizations and others are a great source for additional scholarship monies. In our experience, over 90 percent of the outside scholarships received by students, specifically first-year students, are obtained from organizations within their home communities. For this reason, we encourage you to check with your high school guidance office, employer, local civic organizations and religious institutions to see what scholarships are available.

You may also want to perform a scholarship search using an Internet scholarship search database. Competition is often more severe for scholarships identified through the Internet, as many are available on a regional or national level. Free Scholarship Search on the Web (FastWeb) allows you to conduct your own scholarship search. You enter information about yourself and your family, then a database of thousands of scholarships is scanned for those most closely matching your abilities and background. Within a few minutes you are provided with a list of sources, complete with selection criteria and addresses to write to for more information and applications. Thousands of new sources are added each month, so you can continue to check back for the latest additions.
