Finding A Job On Campus

At PSU it is the student's responsibility to contact departments and secure employment. Option 2 gives you the PSU departments that hire students, including the department contact, location and telephone extension.

We suggest that you look over the list and determine which jobs may coincide with your past experiences and/or future objectives. We also strongly suggest that you make contact(s) within the first week of school. The first or second day on campus is highly recommended. The best impression is a friendly in-person visit early on in the school year.

Although many of you may want to get a jump on securing employment, be advised that many of the contact people are not on campus until the start of school.

Please keep in mind that if you are hired you have a responsibility to your employer. If your work schedule does not coincide with your academic schedule, please be sure to let your employer know; your first responsibility is academics.

TIPS FOR SECURING EMPLOYMENT

  • Start your job search as early as possible after arriving on campus. As a first year (or transfer) student, you are at an advantage because most departments prefer to hire students who have several years remaining in their academic career.
  • Check with departments within your major.
  • Check with campus contacts that you may have: professors, coaches, orientation leaders, administrative personnel, etc.
  • Bring a copy of your class schedule – make a note if you expect changes in your class times.
