About Professor Funk
Dr. Funk's primary focus is developmental psychology, especially those theories of adult development that include “higher” (post-formal and transpersonal) stages. Recently he has developed an interest in the values inherent in different developmental pathways.
Dr. Funk has conducted research on the psychology of music, in particular the spiritual aspects of music. Beethoven is his favorite composer and he has tried to map his development. Dr. Funk has also taught personality and abnormal psychology. He takes an interdisciplinary approach, synthesizing psychology, philosophy, religion and theology (e.g. research on near death experiences), and teaches film courses that illustrate many of the topics mentioned above.
