Men's Rugby

The Plymouth State Norsemen Men's Rugby Club has won the New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU) Plate Championship bracket! The Norsemen finished the regular season with 3 wins and 3 losses which got them a spot in the Plate Bracket. They have been plagued with injuries since day one but managed to fill the empty spots with rookies and utility players. The Norsemen cruised through the quarterfinal match versus Central Connecticut State University with a 38-5 win. During the semi-final match versus playoff rival Salve Regina University, the Norsemen out- skilled their counterparts which allowed for a 19-10 win and a spot in the Championship game at Keene State College versus Colby College (Maine).

November 14, 2009 proved to be the perfect weather for the match between Plymouth State and Colby College (Maine). Since star rugger Kevin Cloutier was sidelined after health issue the day before, positions were moved around and subs were eager to fill the spot. Kicking for field position dominated the game but skill a brute strength by the Norsemen was too much for Colby College. Plymouth's star center, Joe Irvine, began the scoring drive by receiving a pass from Phil Livsey after a spectacular 35 meter run. Phil is also a member of the Criminal Justice Honor Society here at Plymouth. Next to score was Nick Kamenos, who received a pass from freshman Mikey Howes, and punched one in for a 10 meter try. After a relentless goal-line stand by Colby, Plymouth finally scored their 3rd try of the day when, senior, Phil Livsey fed the ball to, junior, Mike Armstrong for a superb 15 meter run. Although Colby put up a bit of a fight, Plymouth's strong work ethic and well-conditioned bodies proved to be too much for them. Plymouth ended with a strong 19-8 victory to win the Plate Championship bracket at Keene, NH. Way to go Norsemen, Your hard work and determination really paid off!

Big thanks to seniors Bradley Coté, Phil Livsey, Luke Schlotman, Kevin Cloutier and Nick Kamenos. Good luck!
