Active Lifestyle Challenge (Spring term)

Objectives of Activity Challenge

  • Recognizing those who achieve outstanding accomplishments in their personal physical activity challenge (2000 or more points)
  • Motivate people that already have an exercise schedule to expand physically activity habits through involvement in diverse activities.
  • Motivate people that are inactive or have a hard time being regularly physical active to think about, plan, and participate in lifestyle and leisure physical activities.
  • Help PSU community understand the benefits of physical activity across the lifespan and encourage members to consider their individual and collective activity behaviors as part of the Activity Challenge program.
  • Promoting physical activity and health behaviors among the PSU community and enabling an activity-friendly campus environment.

Get Involved

  • To become involved, register for the Active Lifestyle Challenge at the Recreation Programs Fitness Room Desk from February 1st – February 5th.
    • The registration fee is:
      • Students: $3.00/person or $10.00/per team
      • Faculty/Staff: $5.00/person or $20.00 per team
    • Each team cannot have more than 6 members.
    • Simply turn in your team or individual tally sheetsevery Monday.
        • These logs are available at the Recreation desk or online.

       

        • Weekly logs should be submitted no later than 6:00pm on Monday.

       

        • Accurate documentation of activities and related points are on the honor system.

       

        • Students, employees, and their families may register as part of a team in addition to participating as an individual.

       

        • There is no limit to the number of teams any one department or office may enter.

       

        • All 6 members earn points for themselves and for the team.

       

        • Team members start earning points for their team from the date they join (be sure to submit this information to the Rec Programs Intern, Nick Kamenos)

       

        • Team members can be added or deleted from team rosters at any time.

       

      • Every team that earns more than 10,000 points by the end of the spring semester is considered a winning team.

       

       

 

Dates to Know:

 

The Active Lifestyle Challenge will be over a 10 week span and starts each Monday

  • Week 1: February 8th
  • Week 2: February 15th
  • Week 3: February 22nd
  • Week 4: March 1st
  • Week 5: March 8th
  • Week 6: March 15th
  • Week 7: March 22nd
  • Week 8: March 29th
  • Week 9: April 5th
  • Week 10: April 12th

Final Scores will be posted on Monday April 19thAwards & Recognition

An Active Lifestyle Challenge t-shirt will be awarded to each participant that completes the challenge. The grand prize will be awarded to the team that receives the highest amount of points throughout the semester!

30 Minutes (2 miles) Walking or yoga
1 hour Intramural Sports play
.5 mile or 900 yards [30 minutes] Swimming
8 miles/30 minutes Bicycling/cardio equipment
40 minutes Floor exercises
40 minutes Hiking
40 minutes Skating
2 miles (45 minutes) Snowshoeing
2 miles (30 minutes) Cross country skiing
1 hour Downhill skiing
30 minutes Adapted sport
1 hour Roller hockey
30 minutes Aerobics/ Group X class
5,000 steps (2.5 miles) Walking
Up 10 flights Stair climbing
24 hr “people powered” transportation Vehicular disuse

15 Minutes Cardio Equipment
20 Minutes Floor Exercises
20 Minutes Weight Training
20 Minutes Hiking
20 Minutes Skating
2500 steps Walking
Up 5 flights Stair climbing
15 minutes Adapted physical activity
15 Minutes Active play (frisbee, building snow people, sledding, etc.)
