Important information you need to know about living in Hall Hall.
Read our Community Standards and Policy Expectations (pdf).
Samuel Read Hall Residence Hall--commonly referred to as "Hall Hall" or simply "Hall"--houses approximately 115 students. It is the smallest residence hall on campus, coed by door, and centrally located.
In 2000, Hall experienced major renovations that included a new heating system, four new bathrooms, three new fully equipped kitchens, new flooring and carpet, and new furniture in all rooms. Other amenities include a large study lounge, a recreation lounge, and a small exercise room. The recreation lounge includes a pool table, a ping pong table, and a TV.
When asked what some of the best things about living in Hall are, students responded with answers like this:
“It's small and has a friendly environment”
“Big rooms”
“The easy location on campus”
“Pretty quiet, safe.”
“It’s near the library”
“Hanging out in the lounge!”
“The people in charge (CA’s, RD’s)”
Built in 1921, Samuel Read Hall was named for a past principal of the Holmes Plymouth Academy. He was known for introducing the concept of training teachers for grade positions (1837).
Lamson Library was originally housed in Hall Hall in the lower east wing until it was moved to its current location across Highland St.
After World War II, because of an influx of Veterans, Hall Hall was changed from an all women’s residence hall to an all men’s hall. Girls were allowed to visit in the lobby from 6:45pm to 10:45pm if the hall supervisor was in her office.
