Important information you need to know about living in Smith.
Read our Community Standards and Policy Expectations (pdf).
Smith is located between Prospect Dining Hall and Hyde Hall (one of the larger academic buildings on campus). Smith Hall has a large central recreation room with a big screen TV and several recreation tables; a study lounge with computers and comfortable meeting space; a kitchen; laundry facilities; and a large bicycle storage room in the basement.
Recent improvements to the building include a new fire alarm system, new sprinklers, a new elevator, and new showers.
Most of the rooms in Smith are designed with a divider that separates the room into two areas. This gives students the opportunity to develop creative ways to live, sleep, and study together.
When asked what some of the best things about living in Smith are, students responded with answers like this:
“Sense of community”
“Living right in the middle of campus. Very convenient & nice”
“It’s my own little Family”
“It’s right next to the dining hall”
Because enrollment continued to expand at the college, Smith Hall was completed in January of 1968 as a women’s residence hall. Standing 7 stories tall, it is a twin of Grafton hall.
To honor Geneva “Miss Mathematics” M. Smith’s 42 years of service they named this residence hall after her.
