English Writing

Beacon Press, Boston, MA

Technology has changed the way we communicate as a community and a culture.  This summer I had the privilege to internship at Beacon Press, a publishing company that has been around for over 150 years. This internship fit my major well, because it combined my disciplines of English and Business…using them to reach people with social media, working with Facebook, Twitter, and blogging for companies.  I used Facebook to research groups relevant to our authors’ attended audience, and from there I was able reach a whole social network of people. I find the field of publishing to be an interesting one, it allows for a lot more creativity, and I value that. Because of this internship, I feel more confident and also have a better idea of what type of job and atmosphere to look for in my job search.  All in all this was a success.
