Pre-Departure Requirements

Congratulations on your upcoming adventure! Please be advised that all participants on PSU-sponsored international programs are responsible for completing pre-departure requirements.

Pre-departure requirements vary by program-type. Please review the international program list below and select your program. Important details on how to complete your requirements are outlined for each program.

While we hope your study abroad experience is a life-changing opportunity that will remain one of your strongest college memories, this is not the case for everyone. Very occasionally a student – for any number of reasons – will decide to return home. In our experience, the overwhelming majority of these decisions to return occur within days of arrival in the host country. We also find there is generally a high degree of emotional turmoil surrounding the student’s perception of the situation, their reasoning and their decision-making process. We always urge the student to seek counseling on the host campus over their situation, though not all students do so. What gets lost in this mix of emotion and decision-making is that you have signed a legal contract with a provider for this experience and there are usually some serious negative financial consequences that you should consider before returning to the U.S. All contracts signed by our students are done so with an encouragement by your Global Education Office advisor that the contractual materials be shared with parents. The financial consequences of an early return are explicitly spelled out in the contract. We caution you to be aware of the implications of an early withdrawal from your program which can include an inability to immediately re-enroll on the Plymouth campus and secure on-campus housing and changes in your financial aid situation.
