About Professor Moniz
Dr. Moniz is the Department Chair and Program Director of the B.S.W. program. She received her master’s degree in social work (M.S.W.) from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and Ph.D. in social welfare policy from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. Her dissertation was on the impact of senior activism in the enactment of Medicare. Dr. Moniz is active as a leader in the social work profession.
She served on the national Board of Directors NASW for two terms; first in 1999-2002 as the New England Regional Representative and most recently as national Secretary(2004-2007). She was served as Chair for a number of national NASW committees including the Awards Committee (2007), the Committee on Women's Issues (2004-06), and the 2002 Delegate Assembly Planning Committee (2000-2002) and participated in three assemblies as a delegate from New Hampshire. Dr. Moniz has served on many national and local NASW committees and was president of the New Hampshire chapter of NASW in the early 1990s. In 2002, NH-NASW named Dr. Moniz Social Worker of the Year. Dr. Moniz’s current research focuses on inequality and health.Dr. Moniz and Dr. Stephen Gorin, in the Social Work Department, recently published the second edition of their textbook, Health and Mental Health Care Policy: A Biopsychosocial Perspective (2007).
Dr. Moniz has presented workshops and papers on health care policy and social work at regional, national and international conferences. She has received grant funding to advance the Social Work Department’s curriculum in child welfare and gerontology. She serves as project director for the Title IV-E funded Child Welfare Education Partnership program.
