About Professor Gorin 

Dr. Gorin received his master in social work (M.S.W.) from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and his Ph.D. in social welfare policy from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. His dissertation examined the development of social welfare and labor legislation during the New Deal. Dr. Gorin has played a leadership role in social work and in health care policy. He is a past president of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Association of Social Workers and was the chapter’s Social Worker of the Year in 1992. For over 15 years, he has served as the chapter’s part-time executive director. Dr. Gorin is the Editor-in-Chief (2007-2011) of Health & Social Work, served asthe National Health Line editor (2000-2006), and as a Consulting Editor for many years. Dr. Gorin served on President Clinton’s Health Care Task Force, the Advisory Council of the Center for Mental Health Services in the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (1995-96), and the Coordinating Committee of the National Medicare Education Program (2000-2004). Dr. Gorin also served as a delegate to the 2005 and 1995 White House Conferences on Aging and on Social Security. Dr. Cynthia Moniz, chair of the PSU Social Work Department, and Dr. Gorin recently published the second edition of their textbook, Health and Mental Health Care Policy: A Biopsychosocial Perspective (2007). Dr. Gorin has also written and spoken widely on health care reform, social security and other issues. For eight years, he hosted a talk show on WKXL-AM/FM, the CBS radio affiliate in Concord, N.H.  Dr. Gorin has taught in the University’s Honors Program and serves on the NH Commission on the Status of Men (2003-2007). Dr. Gorin has been selected for Who's Who in America 2205 and 2007.
