Responsibilities
The PSU Social Work Department appreciates the time and effort taken by social service agencies in the community to contribute to social work education. In order to assist you with the responsibilities of field education, the Summary of Field Education Responsibilities provides a summary and outline of mutual responsibilities. In addition, it may be helpful to offer some general guidelines regarding learning objectives for the Practicum. A review of the Practicum Evaluation (PDF)should prove useful in this regard.
During the Practicum, the Field Education Director, who also teaches the Practicum Seminar, and/or his/her designee(s) will have periodic contact with the field agency supervisor. Visits will be arranged mid-semester by the Director of Field Education or assigned faculty Field Liaisons. The Field Visit Evaluation Form (PDF) is used to document the outcomes of the field visit. Questions often arise about field education; supervisors should feel free to raise any concerns or issues with the Director of Field Education.
Be sure to complete the Field Training Agreement (PDF) and return it as soon as possible.
Finally, in addition to the Summary of Field Education Responsibilities and Practicum Evaluation, a copy of the Guidelines for Student/Field Supervisor Learning Contracts (PDF), which is developed mutually by the student and supervisor, the Monthly Field Experience Report (PDF), which is completed by the student, and the Agency Profile (PDF), which is completed by the student at the end of the semester, are also available online as printable documents in PDF format.
