The Technology Across the Curriculum (TAC) goals to integrate technology
into the curriculum.
-
To provide opportunities for the campus community to develop effective
instruction using technology.
-
To advocate for the necessary infrastructure to effectively integrate technology
mediated instruction at Plymouth State University.
-
To provide forums for public discussion regarding instruction using technology
-
To encourage outreach activities to educators in the state of New Hampshire
PLAN
Supported by an appropriate budget (see budget below) the TAC will
provide instructional support for faculty and the TAC. The TAC will:
-
Encourage integration of technology into the curriculum by
-
sponsoring speakers, workshops and mini-conferences.
-
providing faculty grants for development of distance education courses
or the enhancement of existing courses
-
hosting a minimum of two sessions per year to aid faculty in developing/integrating
technology
-
encouraging faculty on campus who are already using technology to share
their expertise in the form of presentations, and small group instruction
-
Encourage all departments to have an "active" web page.
-
Faculty shall be encouraged to post syllabi, assignments, and projects
as a minimum use of technological integration.
-
Encourage outreach activities- the university should pursue grants to aid
in the development of PSU as "The Center of Training for NH Educators"
-
Foster relationships with organizations such as the NH Society for technology
in Education (NHSTE)
-
Develop avenues to incorporate "service learning" with computer science
students. Advocate for release time for a computer science faculty member
to develop and supervise internship or work study students who will be
devoted to working with faculty across the campus on various projects related
to technology integration.
-
Develop and/or identify faculty mentors to serve each department, with
the purpose of providing guidance to the faculty in the development of
their technological abilities. Advocate for release time, development funds
etc. for faculty with skills in the area of technology to share their knowledge
with colleagues.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BUDGET
In order for the TAC to meet its goals, the budget must address the
following
-
Release time for a Faculty Chair
-
6 credits in the first semester and 3 credits per semester thereafter
-
One PAT position to handle the day-to-day operation of a "TAC Center".
This may be a part-time position in the first year. Beginning in
the 2nd year, a full-time position will be needed.
-
Funds for faculty development grants. This is imperative to the integration
of technology into courses on this campus.
-
Funds for faculty development/travel.
-
Funds for on-campus programming.
