Service Info: Installation

Installation Information

Once a call is placed to Telecommunications and a work order is created the actual installation process begins. This process consists of three phases.

  • Phase I: Site Survey & Develop Job Plan

    • Estimate materials & labor

      • Order any special material needed

        • Determine cable path

        • Phase II: Begin Install

          • Install necessary cable supports and make any penetrations needed

            • Pull all cables to local DeMarc closet

              • Route cable to specific jack locations

                • Label all cables according to Plymouth State Standard (each cable on campus has a unique label)

                  • "Terminate" cable on both ends and install faceplate (basic faceplate consists of one voice jack and two data jacks)

                    • If penetrations through walls were made insert firestopping to meet fire codes

                      • Test all cables to make sure they meet data transmission standards

                        • Activate connections that are needed

                        • Phase III: Update Database Information

                          • All cables and active connections are recorded and tracked

                            • Jack locations marked on building floor plans

                              • For active Voice connections the following steps are taken

                                • User name and extension recorded

                                  • Billing information set up

                                    • Verify extension with corresponding room number for 911 emergency purposes

                                      • Voice Mail account created

                                        • Telephone programming (for digital sets)
