Philosophy

Philosophy Department

Seeking great thinkers interested in posing and pondering life's ultimate questions.  That's "Questions" with a capital Q.  In the Philosophy Department, we investigate larger-than-life ideas in religion, war, logic, philosophy and justice.  We research, write, discuss and debate, seeking guidance from history's great philosophers and from each other.

As a philosophy major you'll experience:

  • A major in philosophy, with options in logic and philosophical history or religious studies
  • Minors in philosophy or religious studies
  • Coursework that explores world religions, war and peace studies, ancient philosophy, law, love, ethics, and other topics
  • Preparation for a career in law, theology, social service, research and other fields
  • Opportunities to participate in intellectual discourse as part of the University Debate Team
