TRAVEL OFFICEImportant FYI for USNH Travelers regarding NO Free Parking at Manchester-Boston Airport:
Effective September 1, 2009, the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport will suspend parking validations for USNH and State employees who are traveling for business.
Mark Brewer, Airport Director, notified Governor Lynch that the tough economic times have forced the airport to change their practice of providing free parking to USNH employees when they travel on official USNH business. They regret having to make this difficult decision, but economic time have forced them to make this change.
It is important to notify travelers in your departments/divisions of this change as it may impact their budgets and so that they can make the necessary travel arrangements. Travelers should refer to the Travel Policies for guidance on allowable expense reimbursements keeping in mind that PSU will reimburse for parking at the least expensive method reasonable for the business trip.
That said, USNH Purchasing & Contracted Services has found an alternative solution. They have worked out a negotiated discount rate for parking for all USNH institutions. The Highlander Inn (right near the airport) will charge only $7.00 per day for airport parking. They’ll also provide 24-hour complimentary on-demand shuttle service to and from the airport. You should have your University ID available if asked for proof of relationship with the University System of New Hampshire. Also - please make sure you obtain a receipt for reimbursement purposes.
This service is offered to all staff, faculty, students and parents valid through June 30, 2010, and is available for both business and personal travel.
Update (10/09):
We realize that our traveler’s time is important as well as the impact on their budgets, so we need to provide options that recognize the importance of both. After careful consideration, we have determined that it will be acceptable for travelers to use either of these two options:
the Highlander Inn at the special negotiated USNH rate of $7.00 per day (note that USNH also does not have a 3 day minimum)
the Manchester-Boston parking lots (C, D, E, F, & G) at the airport’s daily rate of $10.00
Additionally, it is realized that there will be times when a traveler’s situation warrants that they park in the Manchester-Boston Garage at a rate of $17 per day. However, if this is necessary, the business related circumstances for this additional expense must be documented on the PSU travel expense vouchers or pcard receipts.
