Volunteering / Service Learning

New Horizon Facilitator

Student volunteers facilitate 1-2 hour programs focused on group development for on-campus intacted student groups (i.e. student organizations, residential life, athletic teams, alternative spring break trip groups).

Student Outdoor Adventure Recreation (SOAR) Trip Leader

Trip programs are scheduled cooperative adventures connecting human powered outdoor activities with students and the outdoor environment. Trips are led and instructed by PSU student volunteers who promote a respect for the environment and a love for the outdoors. Day trips and/or overnight(s) can involve activities such as, rock climbing, paddling, hiking/camping, surfing, and/or biking. Prior outdoor leadership experience & knowledge in outdoor activities is encouraged.

Employment

Student Orientation Adventure Program (SOAP) Facilitator

Student facilitators engage new incoming students in adventure-based large and small group activities to kick off New Student Orientation! Students who enjoy &/or have experience leading games are encouraged to apply. Students who apply by the application deadline will be eligible for FREE PSU housing for May/June dates.

Mandatory Training Dates: May 28-31, 2008 (9AM-5PM)
SOAP Program Dates: June 1, 8, 11, & 15, 2008 (7:30AM-2PM)
Pay Range: $280-$330 dependent on experience
Application Deadline: April 2, 2008

White Mountain Orientation Leader

White Mountain Orientation is a scheduled cooperative adventure connecting incoming first year students to human powered outdoor activities and the NH outdoor environment. The program is led and instructed by PSU students who promote a respect for the environment and a love for the outdoors. Day trips can include rock climbing, surfing, canoeing, challenge course, hiking, etc… Students who have experience leading these outdoor activities are encouraged to apply.

Mandatory Training Dates: May 28-31, 2008 (9AM-5PM)
White Mountain Orientation Dates: August 25-31, 2008
Pay Range: $280-$400 dependent on experience
Application Deadline: April 2, 2008

Challenge Course Facilitator

Facilitators utilize the challenge course to promote group development with intacted on-campus and community groups. Programs range from half-day, full day, & multi-day. Prior group facilitation & ropes course experience is required.

Pay Range: $10/hour
